Wonderful news! WhatsApp has finally added HD video support! There's no need to double-check the date on this post; you haven't been mistakenly transported back to 2005. It's yet 2023, and one of the world's largest messaging platforms is only now implementing this feature.

WhatsApp added long-overdue support for high-resolution images last week, and at the time stated that it would do the same for videos later.

Today is the day. The rollout has begun, but it is a staggered one, so it may be some time before you get HD video support on your account. Don't worry, it will be available on both iOS and Android smartphones.

With this functionality, you will be able to share 720p videos instead of 480p, which was previously the sole option. To use it, first select the video or films you wish to share, then hit the new HD button at the top of the screen and confirm whether you want to share in Standard Quality or HD Quality (aka 480p or 720p) in the dialogue that opens. This will also display the associated file sizes to assist you in making your decision.

The HD videos shared on WhatsApp, like all photographs and videos, are safeguarded by end-to-end encryption. The recipient will see an HD badge on the video.
