As the 2023 Apple Fall event approaches, leaks surrounding the iPhone 15 are becoming more frequent. In February, rumors surfaced that the iPhone 15 would switch from a Lightning port to a USB-C port. In May, ChargerLAB learned from industry sources that the iPhone 15 will support 15W wireless fast charging. On August 15, ChargerLAB received another leak about the iPhone 15 featuring a USB-C female socket equipped with a Thunderbolt/USB4 Retimer chip.
iPhone 15 Series USB-C Female Socket Exposed!
According to the publication, the new iPhones feature what appears to be a Retimer chip, which is often used to reconstruct signals and reduce signal jitter in Thunderbolt-enabled devices. This means that upcoming iPhones will offer Thunderbolt support.
However, ChargeLAB clarifies that Thunderbolt support may be limited to the iPhone 15 Pro and Pro Max. Either way, this could be a huge deal for some users who rely on quick data transfers across devices.
To put things in perspective, a USB 2.0-based Lightning port caps at 480 Mbps, while a typical Thunderbolt interface can go up to 40 Gbps. Additionally, the Thunderbolt standard supports higher power input and output, so faster charging may also be on the menu.
