One of the main disadvantages of sending photos via WhatsApp is the processing that reduces their size, resolution and quality significantly (and very clearly). However, this is eventually going to be a thing of the past. At least the low-resolution aspect, i.e.. So belatedly, but finally, here are the "HD images".

In WhatsApp, "HD" in this case means full image resolution. You also have the option of a default "standard" quality for less storage and quick transfers, which will cut the resolution in half. Pixel amount is one thing, compression is another - and WhatsApp has remained silent on the latter, not revealing how much it will apply to these "HD" images as well. Still, at least they'll be higher resolution now, making them look even better.

There's a new HD icon, and when you press it, you'll be able to choose between the two aforementioned quality presets. All images will still be end-to-end encrypted, HD or not.

The new feature is currently rolling out to all users worldwide, but it's expected to take a few weeks to reach everyone. Support for "HD" videos is coming soon.
